Pezizales

(cup fungi) An order of the *Discomycetes in which the asci are operculate and are contained within a hymenium. It contains about 700 species in some 90 genera. The hymenium lines the surface of the cuplike apothecium and may be brightly coloured, as in Sarcoscypha coccinea, the scarlet elf cup. The group also contains the edible morels (Morchella).
