Thallophyta

A former division containing all nonanimal organisms without differentiated stems, leaves, and roots, i.e. the *algae , *fungi , *lichens , and *bacteria. It was a feature of older classifications but has largely been replaced by more detailed systems that recognize the fundamental differences between these groups. In some recent classifications the Thallophyta (or Thallobionta) is retained as a subkingdom of the Plantae in distinction to the *Embryophyta.
