chemotaxis

A *taxis in response to a chemical stimulus. For example, bacteria commonly show positive chemotaxis, swimming towards regions containing higher concentrations of food substances 66 chiasma interference such as peptone and lactose. Negative chemotaxis may be shown in response to toxic substances.
