chiasma interference

The effect a crossover occurring at one point has on the chances of a second crossover occurring in the same pair of chromatids. If the term is used without qualification, it normally implies the chances of a second crossover are reduced (positive interference). Negative interference, where the chances of a second crossover are increased, is rarer.
