chlorosis

A condition of green plants in which they become unhealthy and pale or yellow in colour. The yellowing is due to a fall in chlorophyll levels, which may be caused by a number of factors. Deficiency of iron, magnesium, or copper is a common cause (see deficiency diseases). Poor light conditions, and certain plant diseases, notably virus infections, also cause chlorosis. See also yellows.
