convergent evolution

(convergence) The development of *analogous structures in unrelated groups of organisms as a result of living in similar habitats or sharing other features, e.g. similar pollinators. An example is the development of the insectivorous habit in the families Sarraceniaceae, Nepenthaceae, and Droseraceae. See also parallel evolution.
