deoxyribose

A pentose sugar and a component of the nucleotides present in DNA, i.e. adenosine, cytosine, guani-dine, and thymidine phosphates (AMP, CMP, GMP, and TMP). Although not conforming to the general formula of monosaccharides (Cx(H20)y), deoxyribose (C5H10O4) is in other respects a typical five-carbon sugar.
