eosin

An acid stain that colours cytoplasm pink and cellulose red. It is often used with a counterstain, such as methylene blue or haematoxylin. Wright's stain, Leishman's stain, and Giemsa stains are all mixtures of eosin and methylene blue mixed with alcohol.
