fumigant

A volatile chemical used to kill pathogens in the soil or in glasshouses. Fumigants are usually applied to the soil by injection. Chemicals used as fumigants include methyl bromide, chloropicrin, formaldehyde, metham, ethylene, dibromide, and carbon disulphide.
