holozoic

Designating organisms that obtain nourishment in the same manner as animals, i.e. by the ingestion either of other organisms or their products, or other complex organic matter. The organic substances are digested, absorbed, and then assimilated. Holozoic organisms include, as well as animals, fungi and the insectivorous and parasitic green plants. The term holozoic is roughly equivalent to heterotrophic. Compare holophytic.
