homozygous

Describing an individual that has been formed either from gametes possessing identical alleles of a given gene or from gametes resembling each other in the arrangement of genes (i.e. not possessing any chromosome inversions or translocations). Homozygosity may be inferred from the ability of an organism to breed true for the characteristic under investigation. Compare heterozygous.
