Melanconiales

An order of the *Coelomycetes containing many fungi parasitic on plant stems and leaves, e.g. Gloeosporium and Colletotrichum, both causal agents of anthracnose. It numbers about 1000 species in some 120 genera. The conidiophores erupt in a mass through the host epidermis forming an *acervulus.
