midrib

1. The vein running down the middle of a leaf from the petiole or leaf base to the leaf tip, often dividing the leaf into similar halves or mirror images.
2. Any thickened region of cells running down the centre of a thallus or lamina, such as the midrib of wracks (Fucus). See also nerve.
