oxalic acid

A dibasic acid, formula (COOH)2, found in many plants e.g. rhubarb (Rheum raponiticum) and dumbcanes (Dieffenbachia). It helps remove excessive amounts of various cations, e.g. calcium, sodium, and potassium, by forming the respective oxalates.
