parenchyma

Relatively unspecialized tissue usually composed of more or less isodiametric polyhedral cells with thin nonlignified cellulose cell walls and living protoplasts. Parenchyma cells are often present in great numbers, forming a ground tissue (ground parenchyma) in which the other tissues are embedded. See also collenchyma.
