parthenospore

(azygospore) A thick-walled resting spore that develops parthenogenetically from an unfertilized gamete. Parthenospores are formed by certain algae, e.g. Protosiphon, and fungi, e.g. Entomophthora muscae. They may give rise to more gametes or to a haploid individual. Compare zygospore.
