pentosan

A polysaccharide in which the major monosaccharide subunits are pentoses. The most common monosaccharide components of pentosans are xylose and L-arabinose. Many *hemicelluloses are pentosans, although they are usually heteropolymers containing other sugars besides the pentoses.
