Permian

The final period of the Upper Palaeozoic era about 280-225 million years ago. The climate supported luxurious vegetation but became increasingly variable with widespread periods of glaciation. During this period, the ferns became less numerous and plants similar to Ginkgo and the cycads first appeared. See also Permo-Triassic , geological time scale .
