piperidine alkaloids

A group of alkaloids, the structures of which are based on the piperidine ring (a six-membered ring with no double bonds and containing one nitrogen atom). Most are derived  from  the  amino  acid  lysine.  An example is nicotine found in many plants, especially Nicotiana tabacum (tobacco) and other Nicotiana species.
