plectenchyma

A form of 'tissue', commonly found among the higher fungi, composed of a mass of interwoven anastomosing hyphae. It is termed prosenchyma when formed from long fused hyphae  and pseudoparenchyma  when  it has a cellular appearance due to regular divisions in the hyphae. Pseudoparenchymatous tissue is also seen in the thalli of certain red algae.
