race

In taxonomic classification, an in-fraspecific category of uncertain position but occasionally used in floras in place of, or subordinate to, form. The term is also used in lieu of ecotype, implying a category between subspecies and variety covering geographical groupings of plants. Races are often uniform in respect of ecological preference, physiological requirements, and topographical distribution. See also physiological race.
