1. A longitudinal ridge on the outer integument or seed coat in anatropous ovules where the funiculus becomes fused with the integument.

2. The longitudinal fissure in the cell wall of motile bilaterally symmetrical diatoms. It is believed to play a part in the movement of such organisms by allowing contact between the cytoplasm and external medium.
