tetrad analysis

The genetic analysis of the four cells resulting from a meiotic division in order to gain information on the nature and extent of recombination. Tetrad analysis is only possible when the meiotic products remain together in groups (tetrads). This does occur in certain lower plants notably ascomycete fungi, e.g. Neurospora, and some bryophytes, e.g. the liverwort Sphaerocarpus.
