transition region

1. The part of the plant body between the stem and the root in which there are intermediate arrangements of the tissues. Vascular transition takes place in this region, ensuring continuity of vascular tissues throughout the plant. See hypocotyl .

2. An *intercalary meristem located between the bladelike portion and the narrow stemlike portion of the plant body in the Laminariales (an order of brown algae).
