ventral canal cell

One of the products that is formed along with the egg cell when the primary ventral cell of an archegonium divides. It has no cell wall and lies at the base of the neck. When the archegonium is mature the ventral canal cell becomes mucilaginous and may produce chemicals to attract the male gametes.
