vesicle

A general term for a cavity within the cytoplasm that is surrounded by a membrane. Vesicles vary considerably in shape, being tubular, spherical, discoid, ovoid, etc. They may contain particles, e.g. *endocytotic particles , or fluids, e.g. secretory products from the *golgi apparatus. The membrane isolates the contents from the cytoplasm.
