asexual reproduction

(*apomixis) The formation of new individuals from the parent without the fusion of gametes. This may be achieved by *budding, *fission, or *fragmentation in the lower plant forms, or by *spore formation or *vegetative reproduction in the higher plants. Individuals so formed have a genetic constitution identical to that of the parent. Compare sexual reproduction. See also clone.
