berry

A many-seeded fleshy indehiscent fruit. The epicarp usually forms a tough outer skin, especially in the *pepo and *hesperidium and the mesocarp becomes massive and fleshy. The epicarp and mesocarp may be highly coloured to attract the animals that act as agents of dispersal. Examples are the tomato and grape. Compare drupe.
