heteroecious

Describing a rust fungus in which the various spore forms are developed on two different and usually unrelated hosts. An example is Puccinia graminis, which causes black stem-rust of grasses and cereals and also infects barberry (Berberis). The urediospores , *teliospores , and *basidiospores develop on the grass host and the pycnospores and *aeciospores develop on barberry. Compare autoecious.
